“Insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results.”
--Albert Einstein
Patterns are a set of behaviours and attitudes that become a habitual response. They are initially formed around a set of beliefs about ourselves, about others and/or the world and then become unconscious drivers (a habit). They affect our states of mind, our interactions and our results. Similar to beliefs, patterns can empower and support us; however, most likely they are limiting. A pattern is a one way street to the same outcome or result and thus eliminates a world of possibility.
Examples of patterns:
-
Saying ‘yes’; being a people pleaser
-
Procrastinating with weekly paperwork
-
Spending your evenings in front of the television
-
Scarcity patterns/thoughts around money
-
Feeling a need to defend yourself when relating to a certain person (a shared pattern)
We engage in patterns in all areas of our life, in all relationships. Observe some of your patterns that may be limiting you and ask yourself what it is you must be believing in order to create the pattern. You are responsible for your thoughts and actions, so the way to avoid being trapped in a pattern is to shift your thoughts and change your normal way of being. For example if your usual response in a given situation is to remain silent, try speaking out about it. Change your habitual way of being and observe what shows up as a result.
My coaching for you is to notice the patterns that you continually engage in that no longer serve you then set the intention to release them. Enroll someone to support you and hold you accountable to changing.
