“We are what we think. All
that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts,
we make our world.” --The Buddha.
Beliefs are the interpretations and/or conclusions
we deduct about ourselves, about others and the world.
Although we may not consciously be aware of the beliefs
we have, each day, each decision is affected by them.
They motivate our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
What we believe to be ‘true’ becomes our
reality…a self-fulfilling prophecy. I invite
you to complete the following:
- The world is…
- People are…
- I am…
- Life is…
- I could never…
Consider that your answers are indicative of the global
beliefs you have as an individual. There are effectively
two types of beliefs that we hold, those that empower
us and those that limit us. Quantum physics research
has demonstrated that if we utilize the potential of
our human minds, we can create powerful changes in
life. The most profound of these will result from changing
our limiting beliefs (i.e. a breakthrough). Beliefs
are what separate the heroes, the success stories from “the
mass of men (who) lead lives of quiet desperation” (
Walden, Henry David Thoreau).
So, how do you identify the beliefs that are currently
limiting you from achieving your goals? Consider the
beliefs you have around the possibility and probability
of achieving a goal. Questions to ask to elicit a belief
may include: Is it possible to have that? Do I have
what it takes? Do I deserve that? What is stopping
me from having that already?
My coaching for you is to consider an area of your
life where you may not be achieving the result you
would like. What is the belief you have around that?
Is it limiting or empowering? How could questioning
that belief shift or change the result? When you believe,
all things are possible.
“Whether you think you can or
whether you think you can’t…you are right.” – Henry
Ford
